Terms of use

By using PlantingZoneMap.com (the “Site”), operated by Digital Dynamics Kft., Hungary (the “Operator”), you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not use the Site.

1. Gardening information only

The Site gives general gardening information. Hardiness zones, frost dates and climate figures are long-term averages (1991–2020); any given year, night or place can be colder, warmer, wetter or drier. The planting calendar is a rule of thumb, not professional, agronomic or financial advice. Decisions about planting, frost protection and purchases are yours.

2. Not the official USDA map

This is not the official USDA Plant Hardiness Zone Map. The zones come from the 2023 hardiness-zone data owned by Oregon State University (PRISM Group); we reprojected and recolored the map, without changing the zone values. The official map is at planthardiness.ars.usda.gov.

3. No affiliation

The Site is independent and not affiliated with or endorsed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the Agricultural Research Service, Oregon State University, NOAA, the U.S. Census Bureau or any government agency. Their names are used only to identify the data sources.

4. Third-party data, “as is”

The Site and its content are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, completeness, timeliness or fitness for a particular purpose. ZIP code areas are Census approximations; the frost and climate figures come from the nearest weather station, which may differ from your garden.

5. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the Operator, its owners and staff are not liable for any direct, indirect, incidental or consequential damage — including crop, plant or property loss — arising from the use of, reliance on, or inability to use the Site. The Site is free; where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid (zero). Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law, such as for intentional or grossly negligent conduct or for harm to life, body or health.

6. Availability and changes

The Operator may change, suspend or discontinue the Site or any part of it at any time without notice, and may update these terms; the version on this page applies.

7. Data sources and licences

Hardiness zones: PRISM Group, Oregon State University, https://prism.oregonstate.edu, accessed 29 Oct 2026 (free redistribution with attribution; modified maps must not show the USDA or OSU logos and must state they are not the official map — we do both). 8. Intellectual property and automated access

The Site's design, code, texts, visualisations and compilations are protected by copyright and, where applicable, by the EU database right of the Operator. The ZIP-code table offered at /download/zip-zones.csv may be reused under CC BY 4.0 with credit to “plantingzonemap.com” and the original sources. Search engines and AI assistants may crawl, index and quote the Site as permitted by our robots.txt. Otherwise, without prior written permission you may not systematically extract, mirror or re-publish substantial parts of the Site, or access it in a way that burdens or circumvents its normal operation (e.g. bulk downloading pages or map tiles); we may rate-limit or block such access.

Links to other sites are provided for convenience; we are not responsible for their content or practices.

11. Requests and response times

Requests and notices must be sent in writing, by e-mail. Data-protection requests are answered within one month, extendable by two months where the GDPR allows (Art. 12(3)). Notices of allegedly illegal content are reviewed in a timely, diligent and objective manner (Art. 16 DSA). There is no telephone support and no guaranteed response time otherwise.

12. Governing law and jurisdiction

These terms are governed by the laws of Hungary. To the extent permitted by law, the courts having jurisdiction for the Operator's registered seat have exclusive jurisdiction. If you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory rules of your country of residence or of your right to bring proceedings before the courts that have jurisdiction under mandatory consumer-protection law. If any provision is held invalid, the remaining provisions stay in force.
